co-worker: “…but i’m the kind of guy who thinks that if you’re on welfare, you shouldn’t be allowed to vote.”
interesting whether you agree or not.

got my new laptop at work. man, this company is friggin’ cool. the other job that i had accepted was just going to give me a desktop. though this laptop is probably not as powerful as the desktop might’ve been (it’s only a pentium M 2ghz), it’s more flexible. the SXGA+ display is a nice 15.4 inches, which i know isn’t much compared to the big 17″ laptops that are out, but i do need to be able to lug this thing around.
they even hooked me up with a 7200rpm hard drive.
t fuckin’ y, bitches.

just finished fixing my first real issue in the system i’ve inherited at work. it probably took me twice as long as it would’ve if i had written the system, but it certainly helped me learn more about the system. heh.
and it was better than sitting here sifting through code mindlessly. w00t!

i just wrote my first stored procedure and implemented it (in my test environment).
though somewhat overwhelmed at this point with the sheer volume and complexity of work here, i’m enjoying the things i’m learning. and i know i will soon enjoy all that i’m doing, once i learn the business and get adjusted to what’s going on.

this article talks about how businesses are still using win2k despite the fact that it’s support is expiring in June.
first of all, it doesn’t usually matter when manufacturer support ends on an operating system because the manufacturer is not the first line of defense…or the 2nd for that matter. it’s usually the last line when it comes to client support. as one who worked on help desk, i know this full well. i never called microsoft for anything related to OS problems on a client. half the time, reloading the OS fixes a problem.
anyway… so why should businesses move to newer versions of windows? bigger companies have more computers to upgrade, and generally don’t have any bigger an IT staff than smaller companies. and therein lies the problem.
it’s my belief that most big companies make 2 mistakes with IT:
1- they understaff because instead of charging other departments for services rendered (which would make IT a profit center), they simply make IT a cost center
and 2- they seperate duties so much that no one wants to own projects or problems. people are so silo’d in big companies that it takes 3 days to do something that should only take 1 day.
businesses simply haven’t recognized the sheer importance of IT to their production. the ROI isn’t obvious enough on paper, and that’s what everyone looks at these days.

had a lot of change in the last few months… things that i had been preparing for for the last 6 months or so. new job, new residence…i now feel i need a new wardrobe (to better suit my new job). this year, i’m moving to the next stage in life. graduating from college in a few months. it’s all a little overwhelming right now.

i don’t particularly care about most of the hollywood scene or its actors. but i have to make this observation about the angelina jolie-brad pitt-jennfier aniston supposed love triangle or whatever.
remember when you were in grade school, and if you talked to the opposite sex, you were boyfriend/girlfriend? my best friend when i was 5/6/7 yrs old was a boy, and we got made fun of all the time.
i think the angelina/brad relationship is a similar situation.
i know…men and women can’t be best friends without there being problems from one side or another or it turning into sex. but certainly you can be co-stars… ?
it’s a stupid topic, and i wish people would stop cluttering the news waves with dumb information.

one of the strangest parts about my new job is not being able to completely fix my computer problems. i’m still adjusting to not being a domain admin. in some ways, i feel a bit powerless.

charlie is a leo and i’m a libra. it’s been a while since the days of my “googley-eyed puppy love” and thus it’s been a while since i read how our signs mix.
Leo & Libra
Eloquent, artistic, and honest, these two signs share many touchstones and easily accommodate each other elsewhere. The Libran individual, incurably wishy-washy, will adopt the Lion’s determination if it seems fair. And the Lion laps it up! Leo fulfills the Libran’s desires, rubbing him or her the right way and expressing boundless love, especially in the physical sense. Friends and lovers, Leo and Libra derive strength from each other to parade splendidly, in dignity and grace, through the outer world. Their love is an intelligent device.
i’d say that’s pretty darn accurate with the way we are. lollArz.

we need more bandwidth in my house. i can’t upload a bunch of files to the web if my roommate and/or boyfriend are playing on xbox live. well…i can, but they lag out, and that makes for a very unhappy situation.
the answer to my dilemna is simple: more bandwidth. *sigh*

interesting that NIN has cancelled their MTV movie awards performance due to a disagreement over the use of george w.’s picture. i don’t know why they can show eminem’s “mosh” video which is obviously anti-bush, but they can’t have a live performance featuring a picture of bush?
perhaps i’m missing something.
i admire NIN’s stand for what it’s worth. at least someone stands for something and won’t be pushed around by bigger entities.

textpad is the newest tool that i’ve recently discovered. it’s basically a fancy version of notepad. it’ll recognize various file types such as HTML and Java, and color code your code. this is all i had been using dreamweaver for, except dreamweaver is nearly this flexible or lightweight.
