comment spam

so i’ve abandoned any attempt at controlling the comment spam via a wordpress plugin because they all suck.  akismet was supposed to be good, but i still have to wade through comments in moderation.  akismet’s interface via wordpress sucks.  i’d rather wade through the comments in moderation via wordpress’s normal interface, which allows me to search and mass delete on those results.  so as long as you don’t use some key gambling words in your comment, you should be okay.

home sweet home

i survived thanksgiving week at the beach with my boyfriend’s family. whew! i had already met much of the family, but hadn’t spent that amount of time with them. despite the stresses of small children and loving family, charlie and i managed to have a good time. took a few pics, and haven’t finished uploading them yet. the house was nice and the beach was gorgeous. other than charlie’s car getting egg’d, there was no other bad drama. charlie’s family is really great, but better in small doses (as is the case with most families).

summary of the trip: visited downtown st. augustine (oldest city in the US), the alligator farm, a lighthouse, some seafood restaurants, and many galleries (no art purchased, unfortunately). the weather was chilly the first couple of days and sunny/warm the last couple of days, but it was super-windy the whole time, so we didn’t spend much time on the beach. all in all, the trip consisted primarily of devising ways to get away from the children and family. i’ve increased my sneakiness a little bit. :) there’s nothin’ like quiet, home-sweet-home.

i am becoming.

been thinking a lot about relationships lately.  not just romantic ones, but all kinds…and all the kinds i’ve had.  i’ve met a lot of new people lately, and have formed some new friendships.  it’s very positive, but i can’t help but look back for a moment.  i’m trying to make it a brief moment because i think you should remain present.  but you can learn from the past.  i think that’s what i’m hoping to do.  i’ve learned quite a bit this year already, and it’s only the beginning.

i’m certainly at a transition in my life.  graduating college has been a big change.  i’ve had a lot more time to do what i want (or what i thought i wanted lol), which is cool.  so i’ve been exploring all the things you can do with spare time.  hahah.  got a wow character to 60, began practicing yoga and tai chi, read my new favorite book, the fountainhead, and have been really enjoying work.  it’s been interesting trying to figure out what satisfies me lol.

and then i remember a phrase a guide once said trying to make my situation clear: “i am becoming.”  it rings so true.  be present.  just be.

it was a good feeling on wednesday to know that i was invited to 2 parties and can’t attend because i’m hosting my own. :)   heh.

sometimes, i get caught up in worrying about what other people think.  lol @ sometimes.  it’s actually a lot more times than i’d like to admit.  this morning, as i awoke (in that time where you’re half-awake/half-asleep), i realized that i need recognize what i have in front of me and appreciate it for what it is.  i’m very happy in my life.  i have a wonderful, dedicated man, great friends, a gorgeous house, and a good job that i enjoy for the most part.   it’s all about being present.

mercury’s transit

so all you cats on the west coast should get to your solar equipped telescopes post-haste to check out the transit of Mercury across the sun.  it will be visible 11am-4:10pm PST.  i will be watching the webcast as best as possible (fraunies @ work).  if you can’t get to a safe viewing position (don’t stare into the sun), apod has a great simulation picture.

my homegurls!

so the pix of the halloween hootenanny i went to on 10/31 are up. don’t have too many, but enough to give you a pretty damn good idea of how much fun we had. i met a ton of cool ass people who were really fun to party with. all this for only $8 + the cost of beers ($4.50/blue moon). all in all, it was a fabulous night. didn’t get home till around 2am, and i still got up and went to work in the morning. classic rockstar, right there!
