persona: co-worker
behavior: must answer the phone when it rings
points of annoyance: 1- turning the ringer on the phone way up so you can hear it across the office, and 2- leaving in the middle of a conversation/meeting to answer their phone (since they can hear it ring)
comments: this happens at work on a regular basis. not only are some of my co-workers’ ringers really loud, but some of them have a really annoying ring (we have “new” phones that let you change the ringtone…at least it’s not polyphonic goofiness). the main point of annoyance is when people are in the middle of a conversation or discussion (sometimes very important), and the co-worker perks up at hearing his ringtone, and runs into his office (in the middle of the conversation, mind you) to answer the phone. can’t it wait? it indicates a lack of respect for your co-workers. and that’s really where the annoyance is for me.
a loud ringer that might be distracting to people trying to concentrate is disrespectful (in my opinion). this is especially true in close quarters/cube farm-type situations. someone breaking a conversation to run into his office to see who’s calling is also disrespectful. i’m not asking for anyone to be nice or to like me. just please respect my time and concentration.

Happy pi day! i love the fact that it’s also albert einstein’s birthday. this article has some other tidbits on pi fanatics.
…they [pi fans] start talking about some very simple ideas. Like the beauty of a number that seems to go on forever and yet has no discernible pattern to it. Or about the valor of the memorization gymnastics, challenging oneself always to know more.
This is how Akira Haraguchi, a 60-year-old mental health counselor in Japan, puts it: “What I am aiming at is not just memorizing figures. I am thrilled by seeking a story in pi.”
He said this one day last fall after accurately reciting pi to 100,000 decimal places. It took him 16 hours. He does not hold the Guinness world record, only because he has not submitted the required documentation to Guinness. But he has his story.
hope you all enjoy your day whether a pi fan or not!
(tried to post this as close to 1:59pm as possible — 3/14 1:59pm lol)

today’s apod reminded me of parts of a dream i had last night.
the most memorable part of the dream was that i walked out of my house, and it was a dark, clear night. no moon. the stars shown brightly, and i could see farther into the universe than ever. i also saw clearly the constellations that the ancients saw. i felt as if my eyes were opened to the secrets hidden in the sky.
i’m fairly certain this dream was prompted by my recent clarity and focus due to my tai chi practice, yoga practice, and daily meditation. perhaps i should make more time for star gazing too. heh.

i took friday off, and it’s been a phenomenal weekend! the weather was gorgeous and my motivation was high. i’m feeling extremely accomplished. and i know where this has come from. this energy i’ve had this weekend is a result of months of work, really. motivation, in my opinion, is really a state of mind that takes effort to maintain. at least, that’s how it is for me. and when i catch a wave, i have to ride it.
enough philosophy. “what’s up?” you question. (i’m guessing)
friday: day off #1–make coffee, fix the computer. mom calls and i go to lunch with her. at the end of our lunch, i see some old friends, one of whom is 8 mos. pregnant. she’s glowing, and it’s awesome to see her. i bid farewell, and buy paint, tulips (for my plant obsession, what else will i photograph?), oil, and brake rotors. i come home, fix computer again, and get to work on painting the master bedroom (click on photo for details). tried to go out with my friend, lily, but fail, and end up spending the evening with my main sqeeze (he wasn’t feeling well).
sat: make coffee, check flickr, buy more paint. paint the master bedroom until well after dark. clean up, eat dinner (chinese delivery ftw!), pass out at 10pm lol.
sun: make coffee, play with photos and flickr (orton effecton a christmas cactus bloom), look for a chair for the newly painted master bedroom. buy light switch covers (w00t!). come home and relax. whew. install switch covers. play with the potential new mtn. bike (charlie actually got his bike out, and we rode around for a bit! i’m definitely buying one!). moved furniture back in bedroom. hung the “horsey” picture that his grandmother painted (i’ll have to post a pic).
all in all, it was a fuckin’ awesome weekend. i feel great. i feel like i accomplished something this weekend.
